We are open 7 days a week:
Monday to Saturday 9:30-5:30pm
Sunday 11am-5pm
We are closed on Christmas day, Boxing Day and Easter Sunday.
We stock a vast array of books covering most genres, which include a mix of second-hand and new books. Each department is signed and shelves have an indication of topics covered. Ask a member of staff and they will be happy to assist in your search. A detailed floor layout is available at the front desk.
Absolutely! Ask one of our members of staff and we can search our database to see if we have any of the books you require. If you are able to provide the author or title, this will make the process a lot smoother.
We can order new books in, currently in print, from our distributer and will happily do so for you wherever possible. Most book orders arrive within 24-48 hours.

When you are in the bookshop, we like nothing better than to chat about some of our favourite reads, so please feel free to ask a member of staff.
Yes, we are always looking for interesting books in good condition.
Books can be brought in directly to us with an arranged appointment. For larger collections we can travel to you.

Yes, we have a broad range of children and young adult books on the ground floor.
In our children’s section, we have everything from board books and illustrated stories, to much-loved authors and non-fiction books.
On our shelves for older readers, we stock a broad range of genres including fantasy, graphic novels and current favourite series.
Our craft section is located at the back of the ground floor. Stocking a curated range of fabrics, yarns and notions from Merchant Mills, Japan Crafts and Toft, to name a few. We also carry crafting kits and a wide range of craft books for the beginner to advanced practitioner.
Need some advice? Ask one of our staff members for some guidance- a few being crafters themselves…
All floors at Richard Booth’s Bookshop are wheelchair accessible. We are DDA compliant.

There are a number of places to park throughout Hay, however we suggest the Oxford Road carpark by the primary school. This is a long stay car park, which accepts cash and card payments. The car park has a number of disabled spaces which are free for blue badge holders.
Yes, well behaved dogs are always welcome in the bookshop.
Yes, we do. We also have a selection available to purchase.
Within 28 days, clean, unread books accompanied by a receipt may be exchanged for another book. In most cases we do not offer refunds.
