Spore Flora of Taiwan
Tseng-Chieng Huang
Few parts of the globe harbour so many species of pteridophytes in as restricted an area as Taiwan. This is partly due to location, partly to ecological diversity, partly also to geological-climatological history. The history of the vegetation and flora of Taiwan is becoming increasingly known through paleobotanical studies, but so far it was difficult to employ spores of pteridophytes for interpreting past vegetation, as their characters, and consequently their identity, were so little known.
